Travel To Trang An Complex – The First Mixed Cultural and Natural World Heritage In Vietnam

On June 23, the 38th meeting of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO  in Doha, Qatar, announced that of Trang An Complex became the Cultural heritage and the Natural Heritage based on the criteria of cultural values​​, aesthetic , geologic, and geomorphological  value.

The vote for the new World Heritage sites was conducted based on 10 criteria, including some criteria such as "a masterpiece created byhuman" or "exceptional natural beauty".

Located in Ninh Binh province, in the south of the Red River Delta, Trang An complex includes three conservation areas: National Monuments  Hoa Lu ancient capital; National Heritage Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong and Hoa Lu Forest.


The total population of the area is 4,000 ha, occupies the entire block of Trang An limestone, surrounded by a buffer of 8,000 hectares, consisting mainly of rice fields.

The latest inscription raises the number of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Vietnam to eight, with  Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, the Hue Monuments Complex, the Old Town of Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Ho Dynasty Citadel
